Bluetooth

Bluetooth is the first realization of very short range wireless communication.  Some other possibilities on the horizon include ZigBee and Ultra Wide Band.  Bluetooth wasn't really intended for control applications, but a complete specification does exist today, so for now, you're stuck.  Read complete details here.
